History of the creation: Fall of 2018. I accepted an invitation to create and donate artwork that would be auctioned to the highest bidder, as a means to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Part of this project required working with children, each of whom were somehow affiliated with the organization.
My concept behind this piece was to create an abstract landscape featuring a large tree. The tree seemed appropriate, because to many a healthy tree is a symbol of life, growth, and strength - which seemed like a good fit for the work that the March of Dimes strives to produce.
I produced a digital study - a drawing of the basic composition.
Two art studio creative sessions were then held with a total of about 25 children, ranging in age from 4 to 14 years. The kids were asked to use their imagination and paint flowers and hearts. Each child also had paint applied to their hand, which they pressed o...
